10ml of Reishi liquid culture, complete with a 16g prick & IPA wipe.
This culture was obtained from a clone of a wild fruiting body found within Greater London.
We regularly fruit this species here at the farm, we enjoy growing this one in a high C02 environment to prompt antler formation instead of allowing the fruiting body to ‘conk out’ and produce brackets. We find that these benefit from a high grain spawn, to fruiting substrate ratio. This ensures a good consistent pin-set and uniform canopy of fruiting bodies.
Don’t forget to add a bag of Sterile Grain to get your grow underway!
Our Ganoderma cultures are the perfect choice, to expand your own liquid mycelium or produce your own mushroom grain spawn, fruiting blocks and to ultimately, grow your own medicinal mushrooms! The 10ml syringe contains a premium culture, nurtured by us at Jurassic Coast Mushrooms, suspended in a broth rich in nutrients, to jump-start the growth of your mushrooms.
What you'll receive -
- 1 x 10ml liquid culture syringe
- 1 x IPA wipe
- 1 x 16g sterile prick
By choosing a native liquid culture, you're not only going to be rewarded with yummy mushrooms but you will also be playing your role in preserving native mushrooms.
Our Ganoderma liquid cultures are produced in-house under sterile laboratory conditions and selected for vigorous growth, reliable colonisation and strong performance across a range of cultivation methods. Revered for centuries and recognised worldwide for their striking appearance and long history in traditional herbal practices, Ganoderma species commonly referred to as Reishi, are among the most rewarding fungi to cultivate.
This liquid culture is suitable for growers of all experience levels and can be used to inoculate sterilised grain, liquid media, agar plates or supplemented substrates. Each culture contains actively growing live mycelium suspended within a nutrient solution, allowing for rapid colonisation when introduced to sterile media.
Ganoderma species are typically wood-loving fungi and perform best on hardwood-based substrates. Sterilised grain such as millet, rye, wheat or sorghum is commonly used for spawn production before transferring to hardwood sawdust mixes enriched with bran or other supplements. Reishi mycelium is often characterised by dense, rope-like growth and can display beautiful sectoring during colonisation.
Colonisation & Incubation
For best results, inoculate sterile grain under clean conditions using aseptic technique. Incubation temperatures between 22–26°C are generally ideal for vigorous mycelial growth, though exact preferences may vary slightly between strains and species.
Typical grain colonisation times:
- 10–21 days depending on temperature, grain type and inoculation rate
Once fully colonised, grain spawn can be transferred to supplemented hardwood substrates for fruiting. Sawdust blocks usually colonise within:
- 2–5 weeks under suitable conditions
During incubation, keep cultures away from direct sunlight and maintain stable temperatures wherever possible. Healthy Ganoderma mycelium is typically bright white during early growth and may develop yellow, orange or reddish metabolites as it matures.
Fruiting Conditions
Ganoderma species generally prefer:
- High humidity (85–95% RH)
- Fresh air exchange
- Stable temperatures
- Moderate indirect light
Fruiting temperatures commonly range between:
- 20–26°C
Many Reishi species benefit from elevated CO₂ levels during early fruiting stages, particularly if antler formations are desired. Increased fresh air exchange encourages more traditional conk-shaped fruiting bodies with lacquered caps and pronounced shelf formations.
Maintain good airflow while avoiding excessive drying of the substrate surface. Fine misting or controlled humidity systems may be used where necessary.
Handling & Storage
Shake the syringe thoroughly before use to evenly distribute the mycelium throughout the solution. Always use sterile needles and clean working practices during inoculation to minimise contamination risk.
For short-term storage:
- Refrigerate between 2–8°C
- Avoid freezing
- Allow the culture to return to room temperature before use
Liquid cultures are best used fresh and should ideally be utilised within several months of receipt for optimum vitality.
For Research & Cultivation
Our Ganoderma liquid cultures are intended for mycological research, microscopy and cultivation purposes. Due to the diversity within the Ganoderma genus, growth characteristics, morphology and fruiting behaviour may vary between species and isolates.
Whether you are expanding your culture library, producing grain spawn or exploring advanced gourmet and functional mushroom cultivation, Ganoderma remains one of the most fascinating and visually distinctive genera available to cultivators.
