10ml of Pestalotiopsis microspora liquid culture, complete with a 16g prick & IPA wipe.
Originally identified in 1880, this endophytic fungus was spotted on common Ivy leaves and some species of Hypericum, and causing leaf spot in some species of plants. Fast forward to 2008 and researchers in Ecuador were searching for a fungi that could assist with biodegrading plastic.
They found that P. microspora was able to fruit on and break down PUR (Polyurethane) in a matter of weeks!
There are some researchers and institutions that are currently researching P. microspora and it's potential to break down hydrocarbons. We got in touch with our buddies across the pond at The Mycellium Emporium to see if we could get our hands on some to have a play around with and here it is!
Our cultures are the perfect choice, to expand your own liquid mycelium or produce your own mushroom grain spawn and to ultimately grow your own plastic eating mushrooms! The 10ml syringe contains a premium culture, nurtured by us at Jurassic Coast Mushrooms, suspended in a broth rich in nutrients, to jump-start the growth of your mushrooms.
